WOW, new blackout here in Brazil!
Sounds good to me. I'd rather have lots of faculty members than a few highly paid ones.

They didn't go Android because they want people to buy apps from their own market place that they then get %30 from instead of Google. The alternative would be to try and bundle Android with their own non-google market place which wouldn't go over well with anyone. The Android market is where Google are getting all their money from Android (they apparently don't charge licensing fees from handset makers). Not to mention increasing the penetration of things like gmail and gcalendar which leads to more ad revenue.Of course in all likely hood they are being way too greedy, they will end up with a platform no where near as good since it is only developed by one company and late to the table, with a tiny app store. From what I can tell Palm didn't do too badly with their WebOS, although it won't become a major player. With Symbian being open, it wouldn't surprise me to see it regain somewhat. I would also expect Microsoft to try and cash in with their own idea of 'open' too (probably licence free to manufactures provided they use Microsoft's app store, source code easily available but with some proprietary license pretending to be open)..
The silver lining is a second economic stimulus package for the purpose of getting us off of oil ASAP. The analogy is a "space program" for renewables. No one could question the need for it now.Manufacturing solar panels/wind farms on a grand scale leads to jobs, exportable goods and technological innovations. On the national level, rewiring the country for power (and the internet). At the local level, installation and construction would put a lot of unemployed back to work. Our grand and great-grandfathers had the WPA. It's time to get to work. If there is a crisis in oil, let's use the opportunity wisely.!

"Most spam would go away with a combination of domain whitelisting and blacklisting (using trusted, distributed sources),"You're already starting off wrong here with the whitelisting."and hard-failures on SPF/SenderID where the record fails to match or isn't defined."SPF/SenderID are not anti-spam measures; they're anti-forgery measures. They say nothing about whether a message is spam or not. Both also break commonly used things like forwarding and listservs (and SRS sucks)."Legitimate originating domains would have no problem setting these things up"Nor do the spammers. You think spammers don't/can't use SPF? I say you don't know what you're talking about."and spam-generating domains would either not be on the necessary whitelists, or they would quickly get onto blacklists."Like Google.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com, <anyothersystemwithcompromisedaccounts>.com?Spammers are beginning to test their nuclear option, and it isn't direct-from-compromised hosts. The worst case scenario is spammers using those compromised machines to send through the SMTP server of the provider, using the credentials of the user of the compromised machine. In your scenario, it's permitted, trusted and whitelisted. Good luck with that.

***** Apple for making me have to Jailbreak in the first place just so I can do simple things like turn off/on bluetooth and wifi without having to go through four ***** menu screens first, customize the background and sound FX the way *I* want and not the way Steve ***** Jobs thinks I should want, and last but not least, run Apps like Pandora in the background so I can do other things while listening to music at the same time. Yes I know it kills the battery, but that's why I bought a car charger when I purchased the phone, which means I gave you EVEN MORE money Steve, so stop treating that like it's a bad thing. Like you care about saving the consumer money anyway, Mr. Apple Tax. I haven't unlocked it because I don't need to unlock it. AT&T is the only GSM party in town for me, and that's fine because their rates and network are comparable if not better to the competition around here anyway. I installed a new set of fog lamps on my truck this fall so I can better see during snowstorms and such, but you don't see Ford busting my ass for it, do you? Gah. I need to go do something else and clear my head, because the more I think about this sort of *****, the angrier I get. I paid 300 dollars upon activation, and by contract pay another 90 bucks every month for 2 years, so why the ever loving ***** should I not be able to use this thing the way I see fit as long as it doesn't mess anyone else up? Huh? Answer me that you shriveled up turtleneck-wearing hobgoblin!

We get it, Digg commenters. Some of you don't use Facebook. No need to act like you're the Messiah because of it. |
